Jennifer Anthony - Mental Health Student Intern
Hi, I’m Jennifer! I’m a counseling intern currently pursuing my Master of Science in Professional Counseling. My background in psychology, education, ministry, and military service has given me the opportunity to work with people from many different walks of life and has shaped my passion for helping others feel heard, supported, and understood. I especially enjoy working with children, teens, young adults, and families. Through my experience as an educator, I have worked closely with children and adolescents with a variety of learning, developmental, social, and emotional needs. I have a particular heart for supporting individuals with ADHD, autism, developmental disabilities, anxiety, emotional regulation challenges, self-esteem concerns, school-related stress, and life transitions. I also have a passion for working with military members, veterans, and their families. As a U.S. Army veteran, I understand some of the unique experiences that come with military life and the impact those experiences can have on individuals and families.
My Approach to Counseling
I believe counseling should feel like a safe place where you can show up as yourself. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you walk through the door. My role is to meet you where you are, listen without judgment, and work alongside you as you navigate the challenges you’re facing.
My counseling style is warm, supportive, practical, and collaborative. I incorporate strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and other approaches based on each client’s individual needs. Together, we can work on understanding emotions, recognizing patterns, building healthy coping skills, identifying strengths, and creating meaningful goals for growth. Faith is also an important part of my life. As an ordained pastor with years of ministry experience, I am comfortable incorporating Christian faith and spirituality into the counseling process for clients who desire it. I also believe that every person’s beliefs and experiences are different, and faith integration is always based on the client’s preferences.
At the heart of my approach is a simple belief: you deserve space where your story matters. Counseling isn’t about me having all the answers. It's about having someone walk alongside you, helping you discover your strengths, and supporting you as you take your next steps toward healing and growth.
